We're Like, Legally A Business

Like, yay!

Apologies for the missed post last week. It was my birthday week and some family was in town and I just didn’t make it happen. But, here we are. Back again.

This week I’m writing from one of those cool celeb vacation huts in the Maldives. My feet are swinging back and forth in perfectly warm crystal clear water, those little pedicure fish nibbling my toes. This is where I am in my mind, at least.

This week was good. We got confirmation from the state that our articles of organization were approved so we’re legally a business! Super exciting, plus, that confirmation enables us to take the next legal and financial steps to continue establishing our business. (i.e. setting up a bank account, getting our EIN, etc)

My brother and I especially enjoyed setting up the business bank account. We went together and it was the most exciting boring thing either of us had maybe ever done. Well, second only to getting our driver’s licenses probably.

Now that we have somewhere to keep the business money, we can begin the process of fundraising. We’ve been thinking a lot about how we want to fund the company. Neither of us have the capital to fund it ourselves, so we need to get creative.

After a few meetings, we decided to secure start-up funding two different ways: personal investments from interested family and friends and a traditional fundraiser. If you’re reading this and you’re interested in donating, keep your eye out for correspondence about the fundraiser or reach out personally about investing.

I will send a unique email with information about our company and how to donate when the fundraiser goes live!

We’ve been tinkering with our budget (start-up and monthly costs) for a month or so now and we got the list down to the bare minimum. Once we’ve secured some funding we’ll be able to have a website built, invest in promotional materials, and cover our first couple months of expenses. Exciting stuff!

Wishing you fresh, crisp fall air this week.

Talk soon

P.S. The name Will Barnes is an alias. As mentioned in my first post, I can’t leave my current job until I have another comparable stream of income and I’d like to prevent my boss from firing me first. Please don’t seek out my real identity. I will reveal myself when the time is right.
